“With the help of Ayda, we were able to bring one of our most valuable cultural elements, expressing vulnerability, also to our online collaboration environment.” -Salla Ibrahim, Co-Founder & Lead Performance Psychologist, Laavu

Nurturing the company culture in all modalities

Laavu Performance offers psychological performance coaching to executives, team leads and professionals. Laavu’s approach combines elements from performance coaching and psychotherapy. They help their customers improve their business while also taking better care of their minds and wellbeing. All of Laavu’s coaches are certified psychologists and professionals in work and organisational psychology.

Laavu onboarded Ayda in their Slack environment in December 2022, to learn how their remote communications compare to interactions in the office and to investigate new tools and methods to support data driven coaching. Adalyon and Laavu also developed ways to collaborate in cases where behavioural data could support coaching, for instance in hybrid and remote-first organisations.

With remote work having almost doubled within the last decade, it’s important to learn more about the real daily behaviours displayed in digital workspaces.

The first step to developing culture, is gaining insights into what’s really happening in daily collaborations

The behavioural pattern analysis and the insights provided by Ayda showed that Laavu’s team has strong capabilities for problem solving, exhibiting high degrees of efficacy and learning behaviours. Empathy is also expressed often, which is one of the behaviours common in teams with high psychological safety. However, although expressing empathy was high, Ayda detected lower levels of expressing vulnerabilities. This was surprising since sharing vulnerabilities is highly encouraged in the company.

We found that vulnerabilities are often expressed in person and in face-to-face encounters. Debriefing the insights with the team sparked a discussion about what it means to share vulnerabilities also in the digital environment. If vulnerabilities are not shared in digital collaboration, those who work remotely or in hybrid mode may be missing out on a significant part of the culture.

With the awareness brought by Ayda, Laavu’s team was inspired to address sharing vulnerabilities also in their Slack environment.

The shared culture manifests in every modality the organization uses for collaboration. Laavu realized that they would like to further work on their digital culture and help the remote colleagues feel more connected through the daily communications of the rest of the team. They created a channel on Slack specifically to make space for sharing vulnerabilities.

There are significant possibilities to gaining insights from remote work settings with Ayda. The data provides important insights to support coaching and can also be used for assessing changes in team and leadership behaviors over time.
